About
This is the underground gland which is an herbaceous and perennial plant of the Orchidaceae family that has different species. The underground part of early purple orchid has two glands from which the small roots come out, a hollow gland that is the originator of the plant and the second is a full gland that is for the production and growth of the plant next year and the same filled gland is used as medicine and food. The leaves of early purple orchid are similar to the leaves of the iris, elongated with linear veins. The color of the underground gland shell is pink and the inside is white. It tastes sweet, viscous and a little spicy.
Chemical Constituents
The preliminary phytochemical screening showed that the crude extract of Orchis mascula contained alkaloids, saponins, tannins, phenolics, terpenes, sterols and flavonoids(9). The tuber of Orchis mascula contained glucoside, bitter substance, saponins 4%, starch 2.7- 21.92%, mucilage 48%, moisture 10.62%, sugar 1%, nitrogenous compounds 5 %, albumen, a trace of volatile oil and ash 2% containing chiefly phosphates and chlorides of potassium and lime.
